Varroa Diagnosis

Varroa diagnosis is a very important part of performance testing. To determine how well the colonies are coping with the Varroa mite and whether or when treatment of the colony is necessary, we conduct systematic diagnoses.

We’ve created a guide for this that anyone can use. It’s important to follow the steps exactly so that the results are reliable and comparable.

Material

  • Varroa shaker
    Available from various retailers, approximately 18 euros.
  • Cornstarch or potato starch, fine-grained and without additives
    —available in household quantities, e.g., Maizena at the supermarket
  • , plastic sheet, cloth diaper, white A4/A3 paper, or a fine honey sieve (at least 70 mesh)

Please inquire about more affordable shaker cups and matching sieves if needed.
